Testimonials

Take a look at some of our testimonials from the past. These are great reminders of success stories. There is a chance for change!

“My name is Kenny and I’m a recovering addict. I have been a grateful member of the Maple Street House since June 7th of 2019. Before I came to the Maple House I was addicted to shooting meth. I could not hold a job, I was unemployable. All I cared about was shooting meth and chasing meth. At first I thought I was having a good time, but eventually I realized I was actually miserable. But that wasn’t enough to change anything. Meth caused me to be in and out of prison and I thought that was just going to be my life. Then I came to the Maple House after being released from prison and the Maple House showed new design for living that changed my life. I learned I had a soul sickness and that drugs and alcohol wasn’t my problem, it was just my poor solution to the real problem (a spiritual malady). I got a sponsor and worked the steps and now I have a great life, a life I am so grateful for. I now have been employed with the same company 2 ½ years, have a vehicle in my name and has been continuously insured since I’ve had it. I have people in my life I can truly call my friends. I now have 2 yrs. 7 months clean and sober. Things like these wasn’t possible for a guy like me, and its all thanks to The Maple Street House for giving me this new design for living. I am forever grateful for the Maple Street House.”

“My name is Larry, I am 55 years old. I am an alcoholic and a drug addict. On Nov. 17, 2017, I entered the Maple Street House wanting and desiring a new way of life. Throughout my stay here I have learned that if I wanted something different, I had to think and do something different. The only way I was able to do that was through surrendering my life over to a power greater than myself. Through this process I was able to do the 12 steps and traditions of A.A. with complete honesty, open-minded and willingness. I have obtained a brand new life of freedom, serenity, and understanding since then. I owe everything that I have to the Maple Street House of Independence, Mo. Thank You.”

“My name is John, I am an alcoholic. I was introduced to drugs and alcohol at the age of fourteen. I really enjoyed them and had a lot of fun with them for some time. But my drinking became heavier and more frequent with time, as that happened my life gradually became more and more unmanageable. I was constantly in and out of psychiatric hospitals, the ICU, emergency rooms and jail. I was released from the puzzle factory for the last time mid June 2019 and I knew my alcoholism had me beat. I was through with myself and my ideas of how I could permanently stop drinking. I was homeless and I knew that there was a solution that worked for others at the Maple House. I had witnessed it in past attempts at my own sobriety. I came to the Maple House broken. I was willing to follow direction and commit to the program because everything else I had come up with always failed. I decided I would give the program at the Maple house my best honest effort. I committed to the program and followed it. I thought that the program at the Maple House was a checklist of assignments that I would complete and then be cured. But what I found going through the process was a new design for living. I can live comfortably in my own skin today. I have a quiet head that is not telling me how doomed I am from the moment I wake up until the second I fall asleep. Today I am okay. I have maintained employment at the same job since my arrival at the Maple House and I have moved up the ranks through following what I learned at the Maple House about being the best employee I can be. I have been living out on my own for a year now and I can say that I have not once had a desire to take a drink or drug. I am now a self supporting man. I no longer have to live on other peoples couches and floors. I am and forever will be grateful for the Maple House, the men who operate it and those who came before me who return to share their experience with the newcomer. If you are tired of living the way you have been I would recommend giving the maple house and attempt. If you come here honest, open minded and willing you have a shot at a brand new life.”

“Heeey!!! My name is Crystal, I am a grateful recovering alcoholic/addict and grateful member of the Maple House. I started my Maple house journey in 2019. I can honestly say that I have never heard a message of hope like I have here. I was fresh out of prison in a city where I knew no one. The Maple House gave me a sense of family. They suggest I get a sponsor and work the steps and they promised that if I did that, whole heartedly that more would be revealed. In my two years of being involved with the maple house they taught me three things. Trust god, clean house, and help others. I got a sponsor, worked the steps, went to meetings, I just followed the direction and took suggestions. Because of the Maple house I have a life worth living today. I have been able to mend relationships, maintain stability and built a support system beyond measures. The Maple house gave me a brand-new life, it has enhanced my quality of life by using love and tolerance and for that I will forever be grateful. If you want real raw recovery, this is your place!!”

“My name is Ryan, I came to the Maple House in January of 2017. I came to Independence, Mo from lowa to get sober from methamphetamines. I was miserable, hopeless, and out of options. The Maple House saved my life and taught me how to live again. The people there are like my family. They loved me until I could love myself. I got a sponsor and went through the steps. The Maple house and the men within it made me a whole new person. I have been to prison, treatments, and other recovery houses and the Maple House is the only thing that has worked for me, I was able to hear my story being told by somebody else, I knew I was right where I needed to be. The Maple House taught me accountability for myself and that if nothing changes then nothing changes, and if I continue to do the next right thing, my life would change for the better and that it did. I am forever grateful for Maple House, my responsibility as a member of the Maple House is to never shoot our wounded and pull as many people into the lifeboat as possible. Thank you, Maple House.”

“My name is Lester, I started using drugs and alcohol at an early age which ultimately paved the path for me to do a lot of prison time, as well as the loss of all contact with my children. Drugs controlled my life until I was 50 years old. When I got to the Maple house, they showed me love and tolerance and they loved me until I could love myself! I got a sponsor, worked the steps, and followed direction., then I started to see my life was changing dramatically. I’ve been sober for 6 and a 1/2 years by continuing to do the simple things I was taught. I am now the supervisor at a substance abuse treatment facility. Because of the Maple House my life is amazing today.”

“So, here’s my big shout out, to the place that saved my life from drinking and drugs and more importantly Self. It showed me A program I still use today. It also gave me the environment and time to get mentally sober, I am still working on me which will be A lifelong process. It’s been years since a drink or drug sounded like a good idea and the people that know me would tell you that’s a miracle. so, if you’re struggling out there there’s a place in independence MO. Where miracles happen. Thank you, Maple House.”
